Education Support for Children in Residential Care (CIRC Program)

About the role

We are seeking a dynamic and passionate individual to fill an Education Support role for Children in Residential Care (CIRC Program). The roles main purpose is to work collaboratively with stakeholders to improve education outcomes for children and young people 12 to 18 years of age, who are living in residential care or who are living in out-of-home based care (on statutory orders). The position is part of the MacKillop Education Programs Team and reports to the Team Leader.

About you

Our successful applicant is someone who can enhance educational outcomes and advocate for children and young people with diverse and complex needs. You will have a desire to work collaboratively to support students with barriers to learning, as well as a knowledge and understanding of the impact of trauma on learning and the capacity to develop and implement education plans.

Key selection criteria

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • a knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal culture and values and an awareness of the current issues faced by Aboriginal children, young people and their families
  • appropriate experience and qualifications in education (e.g. Certificate IV in Education Support; tertiary qualification as a teacher with current VIT or other relevant qualification)
  • experience working with children and young people who are disengaged or at risk of disengaging from education
  • a sound understanding of how trauma impacts on learning
  • experience in developing, implementing and reviewing individual education plans
  • excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • excellent interpersonal skills, with a demonstrated capacity to work collaboratively with others and exercise influence in a diversity of contexts.
  • ability to work independently, to take initiative and a capacity for effective decision-making
  • a demonstrated ability to manage and prioritise a range of tasks, plan workloads and work to deadlines
  • an understanding and commitment to the objectives and values of the organisation and a capacity to represent MacKillop views as required by the role.

This is a full-time role commencing January 2019.  This role is based in Maidstone.
