If you're answering 'yes' then you will want to consider joining the Greyhounds As Pets (GAP) team as a Rehabilitation Assistant.

The successful candidate will be working intimately with the GAP team in ensuring that greyhounds that are suitable for re-homing are prepared as well as possible for the transition to pet life.

Greyhounds As Pets is the re-homing program coordinated by Greyhound Racing NSW that endeavours to re-home happy and healthy greyhounds from the racing industry.

Based at our facility at Wyee on the Central Coast, your principle tasks will be to:

  • Deliver, monitor and report on rehabilitation programs for GAP greyhounds. In other words, you're working with greyhounds all day, preparing them for their forever home.
  • Make recommendations to the Rehabilitation Manager on how your assigned greyhounds are progressing.
  • Contribute to the development of policies, procedures, systems and protocols to enable effective and efficient decision-making regarding all aspects of the GAP Program. This will help us become the world class animal re-homing program we aim to be.
  • Assist in conducting behavioural assessments of greyhounds within the program to determine their suitability for re-homing as a pet, as well as their profile for future matching with prospective owners.
  • Assist with the day-to-day care of greyhounds including feeding, cleaning and washing.
  • Maintain accurate records on individual greyhounds so we have as much information as possible about our greyhounds before they are adopted.
  • Represent the GAP Program at events raising awareness about how greyhounds can make wonderful pets.

Skills and Experience

  • Qualifications (or currently studying for qualifications) in animal behaviour or a related field.

  • Excellent animal handling skills and demonstrated knowledge of canine behaviour.

  • Experience in undertaking rehabilitation and enrichment activities with animals.

  • Excellent organisational and time management skills, including the ability to prioritise activities in a high-volume working environment.

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and customer service skills.

  • Current driver's license; willingness to travel and work outside normal business hours (reasonably).
