The opportunity

Case Managers are responsible for providing culturally competent case coordination support to people from a diverse range of refugee and humanitarian backgrounds.

Key Areas of Responsibility

  1. Provide culturally competent case coordination support to people from a diverse range of refugee and humanitarian backgrounds;
  2. Complete a comprehensive psychosocial needs assessment with individual clients and families and develop a case management plan which focuses on needs and aspirations;
  3. Provide emotional support to clients in a culturally sensitive way with an understanding of acculturation and the continuing impact of past torture and trauma on clients;
  4. Provide generic direct service delivery support to individual clients and their family members based on identified needs with the assistance of Bicultural Workers;
  5. Identify mental health risk factors, completing a mental health screen and ensuring appropriate referral of clients to specialised mental health supports.

About you

You will be expected to have:

  1. Possession of a Bachelor of Social Work, Human Services, Psychology, Occupational Therapy or a similar related field;
  2. A minimum of two years case management experience;
  3. Well developed understanding of settlement issues relevant to refugee and humanitarian applicants and entrants and good knowledge of the relevant services available to these groups within both the government and community service sectors;
  4. Demonstrated understanding of the role of client advocacy when working within a social justice framework;
  5. Proven psychosocial assessment and case management experience and the ability to design and implement culturally appropriate case coordination plans to enhance the settlement of refugees and humanitarian entrants;
  6. Well developed skills in building purposeful relationships with clients to support them to achieve their settlement goals and minimise re-traumatisation throughout the settlement process.
