Director - Torquay Early Learning Centre & Kindergarten 

 

About the Centre 

Torquay Early Learning Centre is fully owned and operated by Torquay Christian Fellowship a member church of the Baptist Union of Victoria and offers childcare in a long daycare setting with an integrated 4yo kindergarten program. 

Our 115 place centre was awarded "exceeding" in all 7 quality areas and is set apart from many others by its large natural play space and not-for-profit ethos.  

 

About the role

Our current Director is going on maternity leave from end March/mid April 2019 and is intending to hand over her position to the suitable candidate for 6-12months.  

Torquay Early Learning Centre is a much loved centre, which has established a beautiful community of families and educators. This is an exciting opportunity for a seasoned Director to support a team of passionate educators to provide the highest quality care for our children and families. You will be supporting educators, centre staff and students, overseeing the daily running of the centre and will be responsible for fostering a nuturing culture where children, their families and centre staff feel welcome, respected and supported in their individual needs. You will have the ability to identify individual strengths within your team and mentor them to succeed and stay motivated. Maintaining a Quality Improvement Plan, adhering to the National Quality Standards and ensuring compliance to regulations and laws are essential parts of the role as Director.

 

Skills and Experience 

You will have a minimum of a Diploma in Childrens Services (or ACECQA approved equivalent) and at least 2-3 years experience in a similar role. Strong leadership and interpersonal skills are a must and you need to be able to think outside the box and have a true passion for early years education to support each individual of our community. You must also have the following:

  • current Working With Children Check
  • current Mandatory Reporting Certificate
  • current Education and Care First Aid Training, CPR, Asthma and Anaphylaxis 

All applicants must also have the right to work in Australia.

 

Culture and benefits

The Committee of Management delegates the day to day responsibility to the Director and provide support to enable the Director to create a nurturing and positive culture for staff and families. We are supportive of our staff and provide over and above working conditions like above staff to child ratio, break cover per room, RDOs for full time employees, additional non-contact time, weekly meetings and additional holiday pay.

Selection Criteria 

Essential:

  • Demonstrated leadership, management and team building skills 
  • Sound understanding of early childhood theory and curriculum planning for children 0-5 years 

      Thorough working knowledge of Early Years Learning Framework 

      Evidence of commitment to an inclusive curriculum 

      Demonstrated experience in reviewing policies

      Proven ability to lead and supervise staff. 

      Qualifications and experience in supervising the delivery of Children Services ensuring high quality care 

  • Experience in mentoring, supporting and motivating staff members or in a related field
  • Experience in building strong, supportive relationships with internal and external stakeholders 
  • Sound decision making skills including an analytical approach to problem solving 
  • Demonstrated interpersonal, written and oral communication skills to communicate effectively with stakeholders involved with Childrens services. 
  • Demonstrated understanding of financial management. 
  • Demonstrated understanding of recruitment and induction processes.
  • Demonstrated understanding of Work, Health and Safety Regulations and food safety requirements 
  • Possession of a Working with Children Card. 
  • Have a minimum of Diploma of Childrens Services. 

Desirable: 

  • Tertiary qualifications and/or experience in Children Services or similar is highly desirable. 
  • Certificate IV in Training and Assessment or the ability to attain this certificate to support staff training
