Location: Sydney City. This role will be based in the Parramatta office from the end of 2019.

About the Role
The Principal Economist provides expert advice on strategic, economic and policy issues facing the broad environmental sector to resolve challenges, capitalise on opportunities, and support sound policy and strategy decisions. The role is also responsible for conducting economic evaluations, impact analysis and related research to support policy proposals, priority projects and Government initiatives.

Key accountabilities
Develop strategies to optimise the benefits to society from sound environmental policies and programs and support the agency in meeting policy and strategy commitments and initiatives.
Provide leadership in undertaking and conducting investment appraisals, applied economic research, and recommending solutions consistent with best practice research techniques and insights from national and international sources.
Provide strategic, evidence based and timely advice through the preparation of policy briefings and on key issues facing the broad environmental sector.
Coordinate and facilitate the identification, adoption and maintenance of best practice economic appraisal approached and methodologies.
Analyse, develop, improve and evaluate policies and strategies to deliver OEH and sector priorities.
Engage and consult with internal and external stakeholders on policy and strategy issues to identify and develop solutions and make recommendations that support sound decisions.
Lead projects including external consultants to ensure project outcomes are achieved on time, on budget, to agreed standards and within scope.

Essential requirements
Tertiary qualifications and/or equivalent experience in economic, econometric or related disciplines. Satisfactory National Criminal Record Check Clearance.

Q3. Please provide an example where you have applied econometric/statistical analyses to environmental (or other public policy) issues to improve the economic basis of policy advice and organisational decision-making.
