About Us

The name Wathaurong (Wada-Wurrung) is a recognised tribe (community) which consisted of some 25 clans (family groups) that formed part of the Kulin Nation of Aboriginal people.

The traditional boundaries of the Wathaurong people span the coastline from the Werribee River to Lorne peninsula and traverse inland in a north westerly direction towards Ballarat. The Wathaurong people have lived within these regions for more than 25,000 years.

As custodians of the Wathaurong lands, we are committed to working together to provide a secure future for our community by upholding the dignity of our ancestors; respecting our Elders and instilling a sense of cultural pride and belonging for our children and childrens children.

The Co-operative provides a range of services including; family and community services, support to young people, justice support services; cultural heritage services, and health services. Wathaurong Aboriginal Co-operative Ltd is the largest employer of Aboriginal people within the Geelong region.

The Role

We currently have a full time opportunity to join our Community Services team for a fixed initial term of three months in the role of Cultural Planner. The Aboriginal Cultural Planner is responsible for supporting the development, endorsement, implementation, and review of cultural plans for vulnerable Aboriginal children and young people living in out-of-home care. The position works collaboratively with care teams to ensure they are adequate and appropriate, and support child protection practitioners in the implementation of contemporary methods, systems and approaches to enhance the capacity of child protection teams to better respond to Aboriginal children and young people. This is a great opportunity to make a visible difference supporting the local community.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have experience in a community, social, or cultural services environment. You may have previous experience in case management, cultural programming or administration.

You will be resilient, with great team working and time management skills, and the ability to communicate with respect. You will have considerable knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal cultural practices and how they influence and affect families (preferably in a local context).


Based in contemporary offices at the beautifully redeveloped Federal Mills Park in North Geelong. Work close to home with parking available.
