Exciting opportunity for a Nurse Managerto lead theAmbulatory Care Services at Prince of Wales Hospital Randwick. Working collaboratively with the Clinical Program Co-Director Nursing & Operations, this new position is responsible for the Ambulatory Care Unit (ACU), Diabetes Services and the Patient Discharge Lounge, under one integrated model.

The Prince of Wales Hospital is a major teaching hospital based in Sydney's eastern suburbs that serves all of New South Wales. The hospital is situated close to the city, Bondi Beach, excellent shopping facilities, and within walking distance to Coogee Beach.

We are affiliated with the University of NSW, one of the premier medical teaching facilities in Australia. This assists us to provide excellence in care in conjunction with our commitment to clinical teaching and medical research.

Currently the NSW Government is investing $720 million to redevelop the Prince of Wales Hospital and progress the vision of Randwick as a world-leading centre for health and wellbeing, research, education and teaching. An Acute Services Building will be built in Stage 1 including a new adult emergency department, extra beds, intensive care unit, and new operating theatres for the campus.

More than just a new hospital building, this major redevelopment will transform how we deliver health services at Randwick. This facility will enable us to continue to attract and retain the best nurses, doctors and support staff and meet the changing health needs of our community. The redevelopment expands opportunities for cutting-edge health research, world first treatments and improved patient outcomes.

The Nurse Manager of Ambulatory Care Services works in collaboration with the Co-Director, Nursing & Operations of the Emergency Specialist & Continuing Medicine program (ESCM), to lead the Ambulatory Care Services (ACS) for the Prince of Wales Hospital.The incumbent has responsibilities in clinical and corporate governance, operational and strategic management, service planning, clinical innovation and risk management. The Nurse Manager ACS contributes towards the delivery of safe quality clinical services through the effective leadership and management of the allocated resources within the department which contributes towards meeting key targets.

In collaboration with the Nursing & Operations of ESCM the incumbent is responsible for the leadership and management of the nursing and associated workforce within ACS. This includes recruitment, transitioning and retention of staff, career development and succession planning, professional learning and development, and the safe and effective utilisation of staff.

The Nurse Manager has a direct professional and operational reporting structure to the Program Co-Director of ESCM and is an active member of the Nursing Governance Structure through engagement and participation on Nursing Councils.

The Nurse Manager ACS will integrate care coordination between ambulatory, community and inpatient care. The Nurse Manager ACS will be the care coordination link between Ambulatory Care Services, PACS/ HITH, Community Health Services and inpatient services to meet the vision of the Greater Randwick Integrated Health Services Plan.

The Nurse Manager will assist NUMs/NMs in ensuring that service activity and care delivery is consistent with organisation performance targets and clinical safety standards.

The Prince of Wales Hospital Ambulatory Services comprise of the Ambulatory Care Unit (ACU), Diabetes Services and the Patient Discharge Lounge under one integrated model.

The ACU is an outpatient treatment centre. It provides an intravenous infusion service for a range of clinical indications, excluding haematology and oncology.

Diabetes Services is a multidisciplinary, education, clinical and ambulatory service. The team provide a high standard of diabetes education, management, research, community resource and out-reach services from its base at the Prince of Wales Hospital (POWH). Specialised Services include: Type 1 and 2 diabetes clinics; Specialised Type 1 diabetes clinic; a multidisciplinary high-risk foot clinic; Diabetes Education Services.

The Patient Discharge Lounge (PDL) provides a clinical service to patients waiting finalisation of their discharge/ transfer of care to facilitate early patient discharging and inpatient bed availability. PDL can also accommodate stable inter-hospital (IHT) transfers and also accept stable ED admissions awaiting availability of their allocated inpatient bed.

Selection Criteria:

  1. Registered Nurse who holds current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (AHPRA)
  2. Relevant management tertiary qualification or working towards same, or a combination of study and work experience with a demonstrated commitment to professional development
  3. Demonstrated experience and competencies in organisational change management and achievements of measurable outcomes
  4. Proven ability in innovative clinical service delivery, harm minimisation and practice development
  5. Sound verbal, written and negotiation skills with an aptitude to utilize relevant information technology platforms
  6. Recent broad clinical and operational experience within a complex health care environment
  7. Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the human and financial resource management and delivery of health care services
  8. Demonstrated sound knowledge of current clinical practice, its delivery and models of care
