What you'll be doing

Provides and delivers STI, HIV and Viral Hepatitis screening, health promotion, education to priority populations groups to achieve optimal health outcomes to residents residing in the Far West.

The Far West Local Health District makes up the western-most District in NSW, sharing its borders with South Australia, Queensland and Victoria. Far West LHD provides primary care to an estimated resident population of 30,099, employing over 800 staff across 10 facilities in Broken Hill, Balranald, Dareton, Ivanhoe, Menindee, Tibooburra, Wentworth, White Cliffs and Wilcannia.

Skills and Knowledge

  1. Must be Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person (under Section 14D of the Aboriginal Anti- Discrimination Act)
  2. Certificate IV Aboriginal Primary Health Care (Practice) with current registration as an Aboriginal Health Practitioner with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency.
  3. Understanding of the following factors and how they influence Aboriginal people, their cultural understanding of health issues and their health outcomes- socio economic influences, and the complexities associated with Sexual Health, HIV, and Blood Borne Viruses (BBV's).
  4. Demonstrated capacity to plan, develop, deliver and evaluate health promotion and education initiatives for Sexual Health, HIV, BBV's and NSP within the framework of harm minimisation strategies.
  5. Demonstrated ability to work in a multidisciplinary team and to liaise with other health professionals and external agencies to facilitate integrated care for Aboriginal people.
  6. Demonstrated oral and written communication skills, time management, and computer literacy including word processing and data entry skills.
  7. Ability to advocate and promote sexual health, HIV, BBV and NSP services to individuals and communities of the LHD.
  8. Current NSW Drivers Licence and the ability and willingness to travel within the local area and throughout Far West LHD (as necessary).
