CatholicCare Diocese of Broken Bay is a diverse and innovative social care provider delivering childrens services education and care, disability services, a range of family support programs and therapeutic out of home care to 20,000+ children, young people, individuals and families in Northern Metropolitan Sydney and on the NSW Central Coast.

This unique internship opportunity exists to provide specialist case management services to our after-hours crisis response service, which supports Women and Families escaping Domestic/ Family Violence within the Northern Sydney District. The internship role will operate during core business hours, providing both telephone and face to face support.

The ideal candidate is an experienced professional in the field of community services/mental health/healthcare, or recent post graduate student looking to obtain specialist expertise in the field of domestic violence and complex case management.


  • Screening suitability for internal individual and family support services, and making referrals to other services where appropriate;
  • Providing safety planning, case coordination services to clients that focuses on responding to the needs of clients, including both physical and psychological;
  • Providing ongoing case management services to clients residing in the community who are at risk;
  • The ability to assist and engage with clients in crisis requiring emergency accommodation;
  • Responding to complex cases using professional judgment and initiative in a timely manner;
  • Work offsite and from satellite offices based at the premises of other agencies such as Police, Health and other NGOs.


  • High Level Communication skills the ability to express yourself clearly in business writing and in communication and interactions with others
  • Willingness to learn implementation of case plans and participate in regular case reviews and case conferences with other agencies when required
  • Awareness of issues surrounding Domestic Violence
  • Willingness to undertake additional professional development tasks and mentoring


  • Tertiary qualifications in an appropriate area e.g., Diploma / Degree in Social Work, Social Science/ Welfare, Counselling, or related discipline and/or demonstrated relevant industry experience;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of domestic violence, child protection and mental health;
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals in a case management process.
