About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated Manager - Volunteering to effectively recruit, on-board, deploy, support, lead and manage volunteers in our community services in order to meet the needs of staff, clients and residents.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Management of the volunteering life cycle of suitable volunteers (including coordinating recruitment, selection and appointment, on-boarding, training, program assignment, maintenance of standards, growth and development, recognition, and transition).
  • Utilise a range of marketing and advertising media (including social media) to source and attract volunteers and program awareness.
  • Assist and support managers and staff within the programs to develop and maintain successful and well managed volunteer programs.
  • Ensure that volunteers are centred on client needs and are reflective of the organisations Mission, Vision and Values. 
  • Ensure volunteers are well looked after, well trained, supervised and receive care and are adequately de-briefed.
  • Ensure volunteers are recognised and rewarded and collect data for informing the organisation of volunteers eligible for St John Service Awards.
  • Assist in organising corporate volunteering events and gatherings.
  • Work closely with Government, partners, hospitals, local NGSs to develop and maintain ongoing relationships.

About You

  • Applicants must be willing and able to travel to local, regional and remote locations across Queensland on a regular basis. 
  • Experience and competence in coordinating a volunteer program.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong coordination and administration skills.
  • Understanding of volunteering recruitment process.
  • Ability to manage MOUs, contracts and budget process.
  • Experience in developing and implementing Volunteer resources (including policy, instructions, handbooks etc)
  • Current clean Drivers Licence and history, and willingness to drive and travel (including overnight stays).
  • Ability to commit, support and promote the organisations Vision, Mission and Values, and strategic and business direction of St John Ambulance Queensland.

Conditions of Employment

  • Full-time position (38 hours per week)
  • Business hours 8.30am to 5.00pm Monday to Friday but some out of hours may be required to meet volunteer, program and client needs
  • Remuneration package includes competitive salary, leave entitlements, and superannuation
  • Charity and Not-for-Profit sector tax benefits via salary packaging (after 3 months service)


  • As you will be required to work closely with multiple functional managers, hospitals and key stakeholders, a person with a genuine passion towards volunteer coordination and meeting organisational goals is required. You will be working as part of a professional team of community services staff, volunteers, service coordinators and administrators under the leadership of the General Manager Community and Volunteer Services.
